Program Description

This long-term program brings together Arab and Jewish students in 10-12th grade and their teachers for joint learning and exchange activities. Schools are “paired” and students participate in team-building activities. Participants make new friends and gain a deeper understanding of their society.  A peak day brings together all schools. The program also forms the basis of a broader, nationwide shared learning initiative in partnership with Beit Berl and the Center for Higher Education.

The Ministry of Education officially recognizes participation in the Shared Society program as fulfillment of the 'social matriculation diploma' requirements. The Ministry’s Southern District Training Center dedicates one unit of their general training curriculum to the model of this Shared Society program.

Potential Development - Pending Funding

The program is highly recommended by participating schools, as well as local authorities and the Ministry of Education. In response to demand, five new pairs will be established for the 2016-2017 academic year. A significant number of additional schools are also interested in the program, which could expand further if resources were available. The proposed expansion described here is relevant to an additional 5 pairs (10 schools total).
