Shared Education in a Divided Society - Leveraging Educational Partnerships for Systemic Change

250 Arab students, 6 Arab principals, 30 Arab teachers / 250 Jewish students, 6 Jewish prinicipals, 30 Jewish teachers.

Duration: 30 months.

Frequency: 2 sessions per month, occasional online joint lessons.

Program Description

The program aims to support conflict transformation by creating multi-level methodologies for promoting mutual understanding & cooperation between Jewish and Arab educators & students mainly through substantive, curriculum based activities based on the introduction, adaptation, and institutionalization of a proven European model for collaborative education within divided societies. 

 

Specific Objectives:

  • To adapt the Sharing Education Programme model for building mutual understanding developed at Queen’s University Belfast for the Israeli educational context by developing new pedagogy, resources, and communities of practice & addressing local challenges.

  • To pilot the Shared Education Israeli model in 18 Jewish & Arab schools: 6 in mixed city of Ramleh, 8 in the Negev, & 6 in the Sharon/Triangle region of Israel.

  • To disseminate  the model of conflict transformation through shared educational spaces nationwide through the active engagement of national and municipal government and to advocate for its institutionalization.

Potential Development - Pending Funding
  • National dissemination via on-line platform for engaging decision makers and the public; national conference for ed. leaders; national & local policy-makers, NGOs; round-tables with educational professionals. 

  • Promoting replication of the model via direct advocacy with municipal authorities and the Ministry of Education & targeted media advocacy.

Projected Cost: 240,000 NIS 

Budget

Philanthropic Contribution: 80% (Foreign).  

Ministry of Education / Govt. Allocation: 10%

Total Program Cost: 2,400,000 NIS (10% pending)
