Program Description

Art / Homeroom teachers from Arab/Jewish schools, use a focused art class curriculum developed during a Merchavim course, to explore "citizenship, diversity and fairness", with their students during weekly art lessons. The program also includes creative encounters between diverse groups of pupils, joint museum tours, and collaborative art projects.

Polarization in Israel’s diverse society is exacerbated by the separation between school streams, and this separation plays a major role in limiting opportunities for meaningful interaction between children from different groups in society (Jews/Arabs, new immigrants/natives, etc.).  The initiative bridges the separation through an innovative primary school art project facilitated in cooperation with Israeli Ministry of Education - through creative art activities children learn about the ‘other' and about themselves.
