Program Description

Ivrit B’Salam implements an experiential, Spoken Hebrew curriculum, taught by native Jewish Hebrew teachers, in Arab elementary schools across Israel. Increasing the spoken Hebrew proficiency of Arab students is an important step towards ensuring that later in life these children will have equal access to the same opportunities as the Jewish majority, including establishing a path towards higher education, and expanded employment opportunities. At the same time, providing Arab students access to a Jewish-Israeli native Hebrew teacher early in childhood re-positions Jewish-Israelis as mentors and educators invested in their success. This is a very different and important social message and is important for reducing stereotypes, creating cultural awareness, and building a long-term framework for creating a shared society.

Potential Development - Pending Funding

In 2017, the 3rd grade syllabus will be developed and piloted in partnership with CET, and adapted and piloted in 4th grade classes until the full 4th grade syllabus is developed in 2018.
